Boy, have staplers gotten bad in the past few years. I bought a few staplers for my wife's dental practice, and all of them frequently jam. The lost time in trying to get these unjammed would have paid for dozens of staplers. Does anyone make a stapler in the USA anymore. This Chinese stuff wastes a lot of time!

The Swingline 545 broke within a week. When I opened it to see the problem, I discovered that the spring is made out of plastic rather than steel. So, of course, it broke. American staplers are made of steel.
The product is NOT made in America, is not American quality. I have two American made Bostitch staplers that are older than I am (12). No problem. I do not think that the 545 is typical of Swingline quality since my Swingline 767 seems to be OK. Swingline has not responded to my enquiries about this inferior product.

This stapler works perfectly! Not a single mis-fire (mashed staples)yet. This thing actually fires the staple into the paper with ease. No batteries. You won't be disappointed! My kids love it I need to find a desktop model so I can throw out my regular stapler. This uses standard staples and holds a small amout so you need to have some available since it only ships with 50. I used a bunch playing with it the first few minutes. I tried to staple through 17 pages of 20 weight. It made it, but I had to fold over the staple. It made it through 20 also, but there was even more work involved in getting the staple to stay. It is rated for 12, but I wanted to see it's limits. Here is something that has actually been engineered properly and does more than what it's designed to do
Update 12/2011: It still works like a champ.

Used it a couple of times before it broke down, and quite frankly it is very easy to use. If remained intact.
Such a waste.

This is my second Stanley Bostitch power stapler. I've taken a lot of ribbing from my co-workers about not using a regular stapler, but they are not the ones doing all of the paperwork for the company and the ability to staple one handed is invaluable. My first stapler was a 2-20 page unit that has worked well for years. I decided to upgrade and take the first unit home so I can do work at home more effectively too.
The new unit is very powerful, about as loud as the first one (which I actually like, I like to know something has been STAPLED and not gently caressed with a piece of metal which may or may not have actually bonded the pages together). In fact, it is so powerful, if I only have 2 sheets to staple my 1/4" staples tend to punch right through the first page almost entirely! I talked to tech support who mentioned in their delightful Massachusetts accent that I should use 3/8" staples for less than 20 pages and 1/4" for 20-40 pages. Not wanting to have to switch staples whenever I use the unit, I stuck with the original 1/4" staples. Face it, I'm lazy, that's why I got a power stapler to begin with. <grin. Other than the over penetration issue with a mere 2 pages (and not enough to badly affect how the staple holds the paper), an excellent unit.

I bought this stapler for my home office. I often work until 1 AM here. The problem is that our bird room is next door and they're sleeping ( could be your kids too ) and this thing is pretty loud. It sounds like a hammering sound when you use it. I didn't know that these could be this loud, I'd seen someone else using an electric before and it was very quiet, so I just assumed they all were. Not true apparently. But it works fine, so if it doesn't matter, for example if you're in a regular 9-5 office, this could even help you sound busy and industrious, I suppose. I just wouldn't recommend it for a home office where you work late at night and someone may be sleeping nearby.

I love my stapler and stapler remover very much, however, don't use it for too much paper because it won't work. This is a good stapler for small jobs, such as no more than seven pages. Everyone in the office loves it though and now my boss wants to order one of her own!

I love it. It's pretty and easy to handle because the ergonomic grip is so soft and prevents slipping. It's excellent for the girly girl in the office.

After years of using a manual stapler, I broke down and purchased an electric one. I process an enormous amount of paperwork and go thru a strip of staples on a daily basis. This simple device has been a life saver! It saves me a great deal of time and aggravation. Solidly constructed and has yet to jam.

We have these all over our office. It justs works. (Well, it doesn't work if you put in too many sheets. But it doesn't break.)
It does make a loud, satisfying bang. Might not be the best choice if you have sleeping babies next to your home office.
